by Leon Pantenburg

In most cases, a properly-pitched and sited tarp shelter  works very well. The advantages of a tarp over a tent are primarily in the weight-savings category.  But in some instances and situations, a tarp may be the most effective shelter you can carry.

This basic A-Frame tarp shelter is a good design to improvise from. Make this the planned shelter and modify it to fit the terrain and your needs.

For years, I have included a tarp (along w...

I don't care about forth of July. What importance is there in the forth? What has the forth ever done for us? Today is not a day to celebrate a number. Today is a day of remembrance of those who sacrificed their lives to win our freedom from a tyrant king. Today is the day we remember the fight to win freedom from taxation without representation. Today is the day of revolution. Today is our nations Birthday. Today is Independence Day! I personally won't be celebrating Independence da...

Pioneer Survival Code of Ethics

Posted by milandred on May 6, 2010 at 7:16 AM Comments comments (3)

Ramon Adams, a Western historian, explained it best in his 1969 book, The Cowman and His Code of Ethics, saying, in part:

"Back in the days when the cowman with his herds made a new frontier, there was no law on the range. Lack of written law made it necessary for him to frame some of his own, thus developing a rule of behavior which became known as the "Code of the West." These home spun laws, being merely a gentleman&#...

Unlike the 1990s survivalists, preppers come from all backgrounds and live all over America. They are just as likely...
