Census Workers Trespassing on Our Property Share Today at 10:57pmArticle I, section 2 of the Constitution, the government is allowed a headcount every ten years.
We gave the head count in our household. We have been visited twice nowby census workers. The first time we only gave a headcount. Guess thatwasn’t good enough. So we get a 2nd visit tonight about 7pm. This timethe census worker didn’t understand what the “No Trespassing” signs onour property meant.
The census worker entered our gate at the entrance to our property, that has a no trespassing sign right on the gate. He pulls up to ourcabin, starts collecting his clipboard and exits his vehicle.
I was headed inside to grab a gun because we did not know thisperson. When he walked toward my husband, he told him he was from theCensus, and my husband asked him to see some sort of I.D. He only heldout this neck card he had around his neck, and asked my husband forsome I.D. and said he needed to ask him some questions. My husbandasked him again for some I.D., and the worker told him this was theonly I.D. he was required to show. When my husband told him that wasfalse and that every Census worker was supposed to have a badge and hewanted to see his I.D. to match up to his badge he refused. He told myhusband that as soon as he answers some questions for him then he wouldanswer my husbands questions. My husband said, “Sir, did you see the notrespassing signs posted on my property? The workers response was,“Yes.“ My husband then told him that he was trespassing and he wouldneed to leave our property. The worker refused, and replied that hejust wanted to ask some questions. My husband again requested, “Sir,you are trespassing on my property and you need to leave, I do not haveto answer any of your questions. Still standing at our front doorrefusing to leave, my husband asked him for the third time, “Sir youare criminally trespassing on my property and you need to leave now.”
I walked outside at that time, and my husband then in fear for ourfamily’s safety, not knowing if he was really who he says he is, by himrefusing to show further identification, and refusing to leave, myhusband told me to call the sheriff and let him know that we have atrespasser on our property. My husband grabbed the shot gun, walkedbehind the workers vehicle and took down his license plate number. Iwas then asking him to show me some sort of identification, is all hesaid was, “How you doing mam?” My response was to get off our propertyas you are trespassing. When I asked if I could look at his card aroundhis neck he backed away and turned the card around, he would not let meeven look at the card he had on a string around his neck. He walkedaway from me back toward his vehicle and told us he was going to callthe sheriff for pulling a gun on him. We both informed him that thiswas for protection of ourselves and our property and that we would becalling the sheriff to file charges of trespassing on our property. Hethen got in his vehicle and left.
I then went inside, called the county sheriff and told the dispatcherthat we had a trespasser on our property, and told him the story. Hesaid that he would have a deputy call me back. About 15 minutes later, the dispatcher calls me back informing me that the deputy ran thelicense number I had given him, and he checked with the vehicleregistered owners boss, and he was in fact a census worker. I told himthis was great, glad to hear he his a census worker, but then informedthe dispatcher that when someone comes on our property, and wants toask us some questions, without showing us I.D. gives us great concernabout who this person is when he is the one trespassing and refusing toshow us I.D. The dispatchers reply, “ Yes mam, I understand and agreewith your concerns, the deputy just wanted me to call you back and letyou know that this gentleman is in fact a census worker. I then toldthe dispatcher that the US Constitution states in Article 1 Section 2the government is allowed a headcount every ten years, and that was it.His response was, “Yes mam, I will agree with you.” I asked him ifDeputy Terry was available, he said he was not, and I then informed himthat I would be calling him tomorrow to press charges against thisgentleman for trespassing on our property.
My husband, "Should have grabbed the video camera, not the gun…………instinct I guess, protect my family!"

I believe that all they give the census workers is the card thingie around the neck. They call it a badge but it is just a card. Sounds like y'all scared him plenty and he wanted to leave w/o you knowing who he was. I definately would not have gone in a closed gate with a no treapassing sign on it as a civilian employee - does not sound like he used good judgement. Keep us posted on the follow up. I can not see where he has a complaint on you. As soon as you told him to leave he should have left imo. With so many imposters out there it is hard to tell who you are dealing with.
