Welcome to the Pioneer Living Members WIKI
What is a Wiki? Do a Google search and you can find out. I'm going to bet you already have a pretty good idea what it means.
When I think of a Wiki, the Wikipedia comes to mind. It is a modern miracle of the Internet. Take a look if you don't know what it's for. I'll give you a hint: you might as well throw away your old encyclopedia right now and reclaim the bookshelf for some survival goods, like canned foods. Here are some more ideas about that.
I am a brand new visitor to this Wiki and I took it upon myself to tidy things up for your benefit. That, my friends, is the magic of a wiki... the fact that anyone can contribute.
Not only was this my first time at this wiki, but my first time contributing to a wiki. This is GREAT! Yes. They actually let me put my own two cents right here and YOU CAN TOO!
It's a natural thing to wonder about this. What keeps someone from coming along and spoiling what others have written? Well, there are safeguards, of course. But by and large, people are contributors and the magic of a wiki is that it's EASY to put your two cents next to my two cents. Pretty soon, we are not just counting pennies. A wiki is a valuable thing and this one is just starting! (March 17, 2010).
As I was getting famaliar with the wiki, I began reading a nice article. But the article was positioned on the home position. So I just moved it to a subfolder and went about creating this page instead.
Now it's your turn. You already have lots of good stuff to contribute. You know that.
Here are just a few thoughts to help you get started:
REGISTERED USERS If you are somehow reading this and you aren't a registered user or have not logged in, then what is keeping you? Pioneer Living is a great site. It's a growing social network of people who think like you do.
NAVIGATION Use the navigation controls as illustrated here...
Then just click on easy edit and start contributing.
FORUM VS WIKI? Personally, I like to read posts in the forum. So you might ask yourself, "what kind of content belongs in the wiki?" As I see it, a wiki is a place for stuff like you find on Wikipedia... perhaps an encyclopedia of Pioneer Living topics. Think of a wiki as a BOOK that everyone writes together. That is not a firm rule, of course. But use your own discretion. Don't overlook the forum. That's all I'm saying.
IDENTIFY YOURSELF This is optional, but I noticed the user names are absent from this wiki tool. So if you want to be identified and appreciated for what you have written, you will have to put your user name. Or you can add a link to your user name like this... My profile.
You could even put your mugshot...
Another place to give your user name would be the history comment that you are prompted for when you hit save. Now let me see... where is that save button?
