Warning: Say no to Pesticides

A new National Cancer Institute (NCI) study just published in Blood, the journal of the American Society of Hematology, has found for the first time that applying pesticides doubles the risk of developing an abnormal blood condition called MGUS (monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance). This disorder is characterized by an abnormal level of a plasma protein and requires lifelong monitoring with blood tests. The reason? MGUS can lead to the painful cancer of plasma cells in the bone marrow known as multiple myeloma.

An 87-Year-Old's Economic Survival Guide

by Chuck Norris

Got the picture? With that in mind, I turn to a recent conversat

An old Spanish proverb says, "An ounce of mother is worth a pound of clergy." I believe that value holds, in or out of a recession. And seeing as my 87-year-old mother lived through the Great Depression, I think her value (and that of those like her) will increase through these tough economic times because her insider wisdom can help us all.

Mother was about 10 years old when her eight-member family endured the thick of those recessive days in rural Wilson, Okla., which only has a population of 1,600 today. The recurring droughts across the heartland during that period dried up the job market, making it worse in the Midwest than it even was in the rest of the country. Over the years, my grandpa worked multiple jobs, from the oil fields to the cotton fields, and he was even a night watchman. The family members did what they could to contribute, but most of them were simply too young to play a major part.

In 1933, when President Franklin Roosevelt took office, his administration, through the Works Project Administration, brought about the employment of millions in civil construction projects, from bridges to dams to airports to roads. My grandfather traveled about 90 miles for a day's work to help build the Lake Murray dam. But with a far smaller ratio of jobs to potential laborers, if Grandpa worked five days a month (at $1.80 a day), it was a good month.

Like most families, my mother's family didn't have running water or electricity. And Granny did her best to keep the outhouse clean, with Grandpa helping by regularly depositing lye to control the odors. (You can imagine how the hot, humid Oklahoma summers turned that outside commode into one smelly closet-sized sauna.) A "scavenger wagon" came by once a week and cleaned out the hole, which had a small chairlike contraption over it with the center punched out. (They once had a two-seater in there, which allowed for two people to enjoy each other's company and conversation. Mom told me that she always felt a little upper-class when she sat with someone else!) By the way, and I'm not trying to be crude, toilet tissue wasn't around, so they used pages from Montgomery Ward catalogs (and you wondered why the catalogs were so thick). No joke -- they preferred the non-glossy pages. I'll let you figure out why.

ion I had with my mother. I asked her, "How would you encourage the average American to weather the economic storms of today?"

Here's her advice, in her words:

-- "Get back to the basics. Simplify your life. Live within your means. People have got to be willing to downsize and be OK with it. We must quit borrowing and cut spending. Be grateful for what you have, especially your health and loved ones. Be content with what you have, and remember the stuff will never make you happy. Never. Back then, we didn't have one-hundredth of what people do today, and yet we seemed happier than most today, even during the Great Depression.

-- "Be humble and willing to work. Back then, any work was good work. We picked cotton, picked up cans, scrap metal, whatever it took to get by. Where's that work ethic today? If someone's not being paid $10 an hour today, they're whining and unwilling to work, even if they don't have a job. The message from yesteryear is don't be too proud to do whatever it takes to meet the financial needs of your family.

-- "Be rich in love. We didn't have much. In fact, we had nothing at all, compared to people today, but we had each other. We were poor, but rich in love. We've lost the value of family and friends today, and we've got to gain it back if we're ever to get back on track. If we lose all our stuff and still have one another and our health, what have we really lost?

-- "Be a part of a community. Today people are much more alone, much more isolated. We used to be close with our neighbors. If one person had a bigger or better garden or orchard, they shared the vegetables and fruits with others in need. Society has shifted from caring for one another to being dependent upon government aid and welfare. That is why so many today trust in government to deliver them. They've forgotten an America that used to rally around one another in smaller clusters, called neighborhoods and communities. We must rekindle those local communal fires and relearn the power of that age-old commandment, 'Love thy neighbor.'

-- "Help someone else. We never quit helping others back then. Today too many people are consumed with their own problems and only helping themselves. 'What's in it for me?' is the question most are asking. But back then, it was, 'What can I do to help my neighbor, too?' I love Rick Warren's book The Purpose Driven Life, and especially his thought, 'We were created for community, designed to be a blessing to others.' Most of all, helping others gets our minds off of our problems and puts things into better perspective.

-- "Lean upon God for help and strength. We didn't just have each other to lean on, but we had God, too. We all attended church and belonged to a faith community. Church was the hub of society, the community core and rallying point. Today people turn to government the way we used to turn to churches. It's been that way ever since Herbert Hoover's alleged promise of a 'chicken in every pot' and President Roosevelt's New Deal. Too many have abandoned faith and community. We trust in money more than God. And maybe that's a reason why we're in this economic pickle."

Now that's conventional wisdom that should be shouted and posted in every corridor of government, every community across America, and every blog on the Internet.

Call me overly pragmatic, but I think a little practical wisdom and encouragement is what we all need about now. Mom always was good for that. She still is.

Grilling tip

As every Southerner knows, come spring it will be time to get ready for that all-important cooking technique of the south --- outdoor grilling!
I have just found out there are many stores (not just in the South) where you can get a FREE Bar-B-Q grill! In these tough times free useful items are very welcome. You can get a free BBQ grill from any of the following stores:

Albertsons
Costco
Food Lion
Fry's
Home Depot
Big Lots
Lowes
Sam's Club
Wal-Mart

I especially like the higher rack -- which can be used for keeping things warm!
Just make sure to get a metal one... the plastic ones don't do as well.

Ya'll enjoy now!

ZIPLOC OMELET

(This works great !!! Good for when all your family is together. The best part is that no one has to wait for their special omelet !!!)

Have guests write their name on a quart-size Ziploc freezer bag with permanent marker.

Crack 2 eggs (large or extra-large) into the bag (not more than 2) shake to combine them.

Put out a variety of ingredients such as: cheeses, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato, hash browns, salsa, etc.

Each guest adds prepared ingredients of choice to their bag and shake. Make sure to get the air out of the bag and zip it up.

Place the bags into rolling, boiling water for exactly 13 minutes [we did 15 minutes]. You can usually cook 6-8 omelets in a large pot. For more, make another pot of boiling water.

Open the bags and the omelet will roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.

Nice to serve with fresh fruit and coffee cake; everyone gets involved in the process and a great conversation piece.

Imagine having these ready the night before, and putting the bag in boiling water while you get ready. And in 15 minutes, you've got a nice omelets for a quick breakfast!!!

Stay Safe,
Dave

Stay Informed, Stay Alive!

(NaturalNews) This is a special report the FDA doesn't want you to read. In fact, this is the story that the corporate "leaders" of the natural health products industry don't want you to read, either. Why? Because they've all been hijacked by Big Pharma interests, and they no longer represent real natural medicine like the kind revealed in this story. Read more about this consumer betrayal by the natural products industry leaders here: http://www.naturalnews.com/026215.html

When it comes to H1N1 influenza (Swine Flu), all the "authority" institutions in America agree on one thing: Keep the American people ignorant! Don't allow people to learn the truth about the anti-viral properties of herbs, superfoods and dietary supplements.

Knowledge is a dangerous thing. It gives people options. It allows people to be independent from the government and independent from the medical system. It gives people control over their own lives, and in a police state society that seeks to dominate the health decisions of every citizen (http://www.naturalnews.com/026305.html), giving people control over their own lives simply cannot be tolerated.

That's why this article will be blasted as "irresponsible" by health authorities. It will be portrayed as "dangerous" by pharmaceutical pushers. If the FDA could ban this website, this article would be precisely the kind of content they would target for censorship.

And what's so dangerous about this article? It dares to advocate specific anti-viral products as protection against the H1N1 swine flu.

Big Pharma Profits
Knowledge of natural anti-viral products is, of course, a huge threat to the profits of Big Pharma -- an industry that just received a whopping one billion dollars to make useless swine flu vaccines (http://www.usatoday.com/news/health...).

When I say "useless," I mean that quite seriously. Vaccines are only useful against the specific viral strain that was available at the time of their manufacture. But influenza viruses mutate quickly, and as the WHO has already said, the real concern with H1N1 swine flu is that it will combine with seasonal flu in the Fall, creating a new, deadly strain that will of course be immune to all available vaccines.

Antiviral herbs suffer from no such limitations. Because they contain literally thousands of different medicinal compounds, they are able to attack viruses with a full spectrum of synergistic natural medicines. Thus, even mutating viruses find themselves unable to escape the multifaceted medicinal cocktail of antiviral plants.

That's why this special report lists the top five anti-viral products I currently recommend. I have no financial relationships with any of these companies, nor do I earn any profits from the sale of these products. These are 100% independent recommendations offered under the Free Speech protections of the United States Constitution. I will not remove this article, and I will not be intimidated by health authorities wishing to see this information censored. The People have a right to know about natural medicine, and NaturalNews will continue to bring you this information regardless of the false authorities who attempt to deny the People the right to know this kind of information.

Dumbing Down
What the pro-pharma health authorities are really seeking is mandatory ignorance of herbs, foods and natural medicine. They want to cleanse the minds of the public from any knowledge of medicinal herbs. This "information cleansing" is much like ethnic cleansing -- except they don't kill you directly; they just wait for the influenza virus to kill you instead.

In the next great pandemic (which might only be months away), people will die from ignorance. They will die from misplaced trust in western medicine and government health authorities. They will die while waiting for that dose of Tamiflu that never arrives, even after receiving that Big Pharma influenza vaccine shot that doesn't work.

People will die even while the very herbs that could save them are growing in their own back yards. Mere meters away from their death beds, Mother Nature is quietly manufacturing the natural antiviral medicines that can save lives and end suffering. Yet the FDA and the health industry trade groups have sought to disconnect people from the plants of the Earth; to dissuade people from growing their own medicine, and to strike fear into the minds of those who dare take responsibility for their own health (or survival).

As the editor of NaturalNews, I stand against that ignorance, against the chemical profit agenda of Big Pharma and against the vaccine profits reaped by drug companies at the expense of taxpayers.

I stand in favor of personal health freedom and personal responsibility; for connection with the astounding biodiversity found in our natural environment; for the embracing of natural medicine created by Mother Nature; and for the nutritional education of the People.

In the rest of this special report, you'll find two lists: First, five things that CAUSE susceptibility to influenza infections, followed by the FIVE products I recommend as a defense against swine flu.

Things That Can Kill You
#1 Thing that can kill you: Arsenic

As revealed in a recent story on NaturalNews (http://www.naturalnews.com/026307.html), drinking well water contaminated with arsenic greatly increases susceptibility to H1N1 influenza infections. Arsenic is present in the water supply of tens of millions of people across the United States right now (now to mention the citizens of Canada, the UK, Australia and other countries). Low levels of arsenic are even "approved" by the EPA!

#2 Thing that can kill you: Antibiotics
Taking antibiotics before a swine flu infection greatly increases your risk of being killed by swine flu. How do we know that? Because antibiotics wipe out the friendly flora that have been scientifically proven to boost the body's defenses against influenza (http://www.naturalnews.com/026265.html).

This is why, during any pandemic, doctors must exercise extreme caution when handing out antibiotics. While antibiotics can be extremely helpful during the pneumonia phase of a viral infection (when bacteria invade the lungs), they can be deadly if given to patients too soon (during the pre-pneumonia phase).

In addition, there's the whole concern over antibiotics abuse creating yet more dangerous superbugs in hospitals. Imagine the combination assault of a deadly new strain of the H1N1 influenza virus plus an antibiotic-resistant superbug sweeping through the hospitals of the world...

That's a very dangerous combination indeed!

#3 Thing that can kill you: Lack of sleep
Getting fewer than six hours of sleep each night increases your risk of contracting colds (such as influenza) by a whopping 300 percent! Read more in this NaturalNews article: http://www.naturalnews.com/News_000...

Eight hours of sleep each night will substantially boost your immune function, giving you the metabolic tools you need to fight off potentially deadly influenza infections.

More Deadly Things
#4 Thing that can kill you: Lack of vitamin D

Virtually everyone living in the U.S., Canada and the U.K. is chronically deficient in Vitamin D. Those living in Australia are usually better off, as there's more of a sunshine culture there, but even Aussies can find themselves vitamin D deficient if they live their lives indoors and don't venture into the real world to catch some healthy rays.

Vitamin D deficiency is, without question, one of the primary causes of influenza susceptibility (http://www.naturalnews.com/021229.html). Having sufficient vitamin D circulating in your blood is one of the best defenses against infection (http://www.naturalnews.com/024982.html).

Health authorities in the U.S. and other western nations are currently engaged in a campaign to keep the population vitamin D deficient. This is achieved by brainwashing people into thinking sunlight alone causes skin cancer. That's a big medical lie, of course. Even the Journal of the National Cancer Institute has published scientific research showing that sunlight exposure reduces the risk of skin cancer (http://www.naturalnews.com/007632.html).

The American Cancer Society, of course, spreads extremely dangerous disinformation about sunlight exposure, seeking to make sure that no ray of sun ever touches the skin of any person. This "darkness" campaign will soon be exposed as a death sentence for the People as the next pandemic takes the lives of those stupid enough to believe that moderate sunlight exposure is bad for their health.

In the next great pandemic, when the hospital beds are overflowing with the dead, and school gymnasiums are taken over as holding cells for the constant stream of incoming body bags, the dead will consist almost entirely of those who believed the lies of the American Cancer Society and the disinformation of the FDA and Big Pharma. This is one case in which misplaced faith in a corporate-controlled medical monstrosity can literally cost you your life.

Click the link below for a picture from the 1918 Spanish Flu that may give you some idea of what to expect during the next great pandemic: http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images...

(What's missing from this photo, of course, are the armed military personnel, toting automatic rifles, who will shoot any infected person who attempts to escape the facility.)

#5: Thing that can kill you: Antacid drugs like Prilosec, Nexium and Prevacid

In a pandemic, use of these popular antacid drugs can actually lead to your death. How? A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) concludes that these PPI drugs significantly increase the risk of deadly pneumonia.

Read the full story here: http://www.naturalnews.com/026361_d...

These acid-suppressing medications, it turns out, are linked to a 30 percent increase in the risk of acquired pneumonia. And if you're suffering from something like the swine flu, pneumonia is the most common cause of death. It's the secondary bacterial infections, after all, that killed most people in 1918, and that's what's likely to cause the greatest number of fatalities in the next great pandemic as well.

If you want to protect yourself from influenza, avoid taking antacid drugs (including over-the-counter antacids).

Natural Anti-Virals
Now let's get to the good news. The good news is that natural medicine can save your life. If a pandemic strikes, Tamiflu supplies will be tightly controlled. Unless you're an emergency worker or a health care worker, your chances of ever being given Tamiflu are rather slim. Vaccines, of course, will be utterly useless once the influenza virus mutates, so even receiving a vaccine shot offers no protection other than what's available through the placebo effect.

This leaves natural medicine and the world of anti-viral plants.

Due to the mass brainwashing of the public by pro-Pharma health authorities, most people have no awareness whatsoever of the fact that plants manufacture their own anti-viral medicines.

In fact, there's no such thing as a plant that does not contain anti-viral medicine. EVERY plant on our planet manufactures at least one anti-viral medicine in its own cells.

Did you ever wonder why? It's because plants are under constant attack by viruses, too. And if they don't create their own internal mechanisms for dealing with viruses, they will not survive.

This is especially true with plant roots, which are immersed in soil that's rich with both bacteria and viruses. If those roots do not possess anti-viral and anti-bacterial defenses, they will quickly be consumed and destroyed, killing the plant.

Thus, in virtually all plants, the manufacture of anti-viral medicines is the most natural thing in the world. It happens from day one of the plant sprouting, and it continues through the entire life of the plant.

Simply eating grass (or better yet, juicing grass) is, all by itself, an empowered act of medical self treatment. Grass contains anti-viral compounds, chlorophyll, vitamins, minerals and hundreds of other health-enhancing phytochemicals. (Don't juice grass treated with pesticides, obviously.)

There are other plants, of course, with far greater anti-viral potential than grass. I merely mention this to point out the utter simplicity of finding and consuming anti-viral medicine: If you have a lawn, you have a pharmacy in your yard! (Even better if you have dandelions and other "weeds.")

Wild foods offer the strongest anti-viral medicine. That's a whole different area of expertise, of course, and if you want to learn more about wild foods, I have two sources to suggest:

• Peter Ragnar - www.RoaringLionPublishing.com

• Daniel Vitalis - www.Surthrival.com (his website is currently sparse, but look for upcoming announcements on seminars and teleconference events from Daniel Vitalis...)

NEXT PAGE: The top five natural anti-viral medicines

Top Five Anti-Virals
Anti-Viral #1 - Super ViraGon

My favorite liquid anti-viral product remains Jon Barron's Super ViraGon - a potent combination of garlic, olive leaf extract (a powerful anti-viral!), onion, ginger, zinc and other nutrients. I keep this in my own emergency supply of natural medicine.

It's available from www.BaselineNutritionals.com for a very fair price (order five for the best discount).

Anti-Viral #2 - Fitura PowerImmune

The PowerImmune anti-viral tincture offered by Fitura (www.Fitura.com) combines organic Echinacea, Cat's Claw, Shiitake Mushroom, Olive Leaf and many other ingredients (all organic). This is another "medicine chest" product I keep in good supply. It's also good to travel with. I personally take a dropper full of this product each time I board an airplane.

Living in Ecuador, this is also a "first aid" product I keep with me in the Valley of Longevity. Of course, if a pandemic were to strike, I would just go to my garden and eat all the natural anti-virals located there, but if I'm caught traveling -- or I need an extra boost of herbal concentrates, PowerImmune is one of my top choices.

Anti-Viral #3 - Lomatium Dissectum

This product is the "secret" anti-influenza herb that very few people know about, even in the natural health industry. The root of the Lomatium is perhaps Mother Nature's "perfect" anti-influenza herb because its anti-viral action is combined with a respiratory clearing action that's especially useful for dealing with the secondary infections caused by many strains of influenza.

The indigenous American Indians grew Lomatium and used it as medicine. If you live in the American Southwest (or other dry, hot climates), you can probably grow this medicine, too. It might be one of the best investments you can make in your own health defense, because herbs that are growing in your yard are always more potent than herbs found in bottles.

If you can't grow it, of course, you'll need to buy it. Here's one recommendation of an existing Lomatium tincture:

Nature's Answer has a 1-ounce tincture that's available at Vitacost.com for a ridiculously good price (http://www.vitacost.com/Natures-Ans...). This product will probably be wiped out of inventory shortly after this special report goes public, so get some of this quickly if you want it in your natural medicine chest.

Anti-Viral #4 - HerbPharm Virattack Compound

Speaking of Lomatium, HerbPharm offers an herbal tincture that combines it with St. John's Wort (also a powerful anti-viral), lemon balm, olive leaf and other powerful anti-viral herbs.

This is a superb combination. It's really, really powerful in defending against influenza infections. Vitacost offers it at nearly half off the retail price (http://www.vitacost.com/Herb-Pharm-...).

I definitely recommend getting some of this. You might also wish to check your local health food stores to see what they have in stock. During a pandemic, I can practically guarantee you won't be able to find any of these medicines, because people will engage in "panic buying" of these natural anti-virals. It's smart to have a few on hand now, before the next pandemic strikes.

Anti-Viral #5 - Olive Leaf Extract

One taste of real olive life extract and you'll be convinced: This is powerful stuff! The best-known phytochemical in olive leaves is oleuropein, a very potent antimicrobial medicine that also has natural anti-viral properties.

Your best value on a standardized extract, in supplement form, is the NSI brand from VitaCost (http://www.vitacost.com/NSI-Olive-L...). I personally like the liquids better (http://www.vitacost.com/Natures-Ans...), but the taste is a big turn off for most consumers. If you're not into chugging really bizarre-tasting liquids, go with the capsules instead.

Ideally, your best way to have this medicine nearby is to grow your own olive trees. To make the medicine, just gather leaves from the trees, wash them, add them to a large container of water and boil it into a concentrate. This liquid can be consumed internally or used topically. Seek the direction of a naturopathic physician, of course, before consuming this internally, and be especially cautious if you are pregnant.

The shelf life of most of these natural medicine products is about 1-2 years. That can be roughly doubled by refrigerating the products (highly recommended).

Virals
Honorable mention anti-virals

In addition to the top five I've already mentioned here, there are other antiviral products and nutrients worth mentioning:

• Nascent Iodine - (www.IntegratedHealth.com) - Offers additional protection against infectious disease while supporting your thyroid gland.

• Amazon Herbs - The Amazon Herb Company's numerous products from the Amazon rainforest are also, in their own ways, powerful anti-virals. Even their Zamu juice is a good choice (as it contains Sangre de Drago) for protection against infectious disease. Cat's Claw (Una de Gato) is also a powerful antiviral, and it's available in numerous Amazon Herb products.

• Probiotics - Virtually all probiotics will boost your defenses against infectious disease. Scientific research has even shown that probiotics directly reduce the risk of contracting H1N1 swine flu. You can find probiotics at your local health food store. Read more here: http://www.naturalnews.com/026265.html

• Wildcrafted oregano oil - (www.P-73.com) or (http://www.vitacost.com/productResu...) - This is a phenomenal wildcrafted oil with too many health benefits to mention here. It's extremely useful as a first aid product, too, and can help your body heal more quickly. (It's also known to be very useful for topically treating spider bites and insect bites.)

A related product, also available from Vitacost.com, is called OregaRESP (http://www.vitacost.com/North-Ameri...), which is an extremely potent encapsulated form of oregano oil. (Just open this bottle and inhale, you'll be floored!)

Stay Alive
Hopefully what you've noticed in all this is a very important pattern: If you stay informed, you will stay alive!

The No. 1 killer of people in the next great pandemic will be, without question, ignorance of natural medicine. Those who don't know about these natural anti-virals will literally die of ignorance, while those who understand the incredible healing power of Mother Nature's medicine are far more likely to survive.

But it's about more than survival: It's also about independence. When you use natural medicine to boost your defenses, you are no longer dependant on doctors, hospitals and conventional medicine to provide you with medicine. So instead of being a victim to the military medical establishment (because the military will be involved in the distribution of vaccines, trust me...), you can instead remain independent and self-reliant.

It is this self-reliance that scares the power mongers who run our world. The last thing they want is citizens taking charge of their own health and refusing to function as slaves to Big Pharma.

I hope you found this report informative and valuable. Stay informed and you'll stay alive during the next pandemic.

Codex Alimentarius Would Violate Liberty

The concept of liberty as an inalienable right of the individual is a critical component to the strength of a truly free nation. America was founded upon the ideal of the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as the spiritual gifts granted to men and women by right of birth, not by any human institution. These rights were considered by our Founding Fathers as something governments have absolutely no authority or right to give or take away.

Founding Fathers Warned About Usurpation of Health Freedom

America’s Founding Fathers, and many liberty-minded men and women after them, dedicated their lives to ensure that the concept of the inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness would continue as sacred maxims in the mass-consciousness of our nation. This was done so that we, the People, would value and uphold these rights as supreme and protect them. And living more fulfilling lives as a result.

And then Codex Alimentarius comes along in our lifetime, seeking to forcefully regulate our health choices, and trying to do exactly what Jefferson warned us about when he said “if people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny.

Liberty Means We Have Freedom of Choice Over Our Own Bodies

Freedom of choice and freedom from coercion are two base-pillars of liberty. Codex Alimentarius violates our freedom of choice about clean, unadulterated food and imposes coercive measures upon our lives about the health choices we can make.

For example, is your right to choose non-toxic food upheld when organic food standards are desecrated by Codex Alimentarius and all animals must be treated with toxic chemicals and drugs before you can eat them?

Is your right to choose food free of genetic engineering upheld when GMOs are used without labeling?

Is your right to choose effective nutritional supplements to support the individual biochemistry of your body protected when high potency, clinically effective natural health products are eliminated from the market?

The above questions are related to freedom of choice and liberty, which is granted as our birth right, not by the state. Since liberty is ours by birth, it cannot be removed unless we let it be taken away through inaction and passivity.

How Codex Violates Liberty as Defined by Dictionary

Let us, using the dictionary definition of the word “liberty”, explain how Codex would violate liberty. First, here’s the definition:

lib-er-ty
n. pl. lib-er-ties

    1. The condition of being free from restriction or control.
    2. The right and power to act, believe, or express oneself in a manner of one’s own choosing.
    3. The condition of being physically and legally free from confinement, servitude, or forced labor. See Synonyms at freedom.
  1. Freedom from unjust or undue governmental control.
  2. A right or immunity to engage in certain actions without control or interference: the liberties protected by the Bill of Rights.
Source: Dictionary.com

Codex Violates “The condition of being free from restriction or control”

With every bite of our food, nutrients and herbs controlled from “seed to supper”, from “fork to farm”, and with the decisions on how that takes place made by people for whom greed, not health, is the deciding factor, Codex takes us far, far away from “The condition of being free from restriction or control.” Instead, every morsel of food will be the product of control exerted by massive multi-national corporate entities.

Codex Violates “The right and power to act, believe, or express oneself in a manner of one’s own choosing”

Would you like to buy (or raise) beef from grass fed cattle never treated with hormones or antibiotics? If we let Codex Alimentarius control that herd, that option could be gone. Codex would control how the beef you buy could and could not be raised. Codex mandates the use of hormones and antibiotics which would make your beef unsuitable for healthy eating.

Well, how about astragalus (an herb used for immune enhancement for cancer, HIV/AIDS, etc.) and 3 grams of Vitamin C to strengthen a compromised immune system?

Under Codex, you can only use low-dose supplements without therapeutic benefit, and the drugs of pharmaceutical companies and. These are the substances that kill 106,000 per year when properly prescribed (and about 204,000 Americans per year if you add in “medical misadventure” or improperly prescribed drugs).

Codex Violates “The condition of being physically and legally free from confinement, servitude, or forced labor”

Are you free from servitude when you foodr is laced with chemical and you cannot legally purchase clean food due to degraded organic standards?

Are you free from servitude when you are forbidden to seek and receive medical care which is not based in drugs or surgery?

Are you a free man or woman, able to make and express your own decisions about your health and those whom you love when the most inexpensive and powerful tools mankind has for health and well being - namely clean food, herbs and nutrients to nourish and heal the body - are denied to you because you are not powerful or rich enough to be in the driver’s seat of this careening buggy being recklessly driven (by greed need and control need), over a health cliff?

You might still be a free man or woman regardless of Codex, but you would have to grow your own food and create your own supplements. You would have no free market to exercise your freedom of choice in. Because you would have all your health choices taken away by Codex Alimentarius.

Codex Violates “Freedom from unjust or undue governmental control”

Clearly, poisoning of food and forbidding all therapeutic nutritional supplements as Codex is poised to do, is tantamount to unjust and undue governmental control.

The Congressional delegates who allow such a thing to happen are acting on behalf of their own best interest, including the $758 million dollars spent by the Drug industry to lobby Congress last year alone.

The U.S. Government must be reminded of who they serve. Their real task is to serve us, the People, and not the multi-national corporate sponsors of Codex Alimentarius.

Codex Violates “A right or immunity to engage in certain actions without control or interference: the liberties protected by the Bill of Rights”

All the above violations would take away liberties which are protected by the Bill of Rights. Codex Alimentarius would, indeed, violate the Bill of Rights.

Make Sure You Have Roses In Your Garden!

Over the past few months, busy with getting the homestead up and running with the addition of a couple of turkeys, some Cornish game hens, laying hens, and rabbits, not to mention keeping up with the garden, we have been discussing where we were going to put the rose garden.  Yes, a rose garden.  Well we just discovered we already have a wild rose garden.  Yes wild roses that climb to about 10 feet tall.  That is one chore we can check off our list as there is already one established and we can harvest the fruit this fall.

That’s right.  All roses produce fruit.  Rose flowers, like cherry flowers, mature into a sweet fleshy seed filled fruit after pollination. Even the modern carpet roses have fruit bred down to a scant pea size, but they are indeed still there. The reason that so few people recognize rose fruit is that we cut the flowers off before they have a chance to pollinate and form seed.

Rose fruits are called hips. Each kind of rose produces hips of a slightly different size and shape. Some, like rugosa roses, create hips shaped like pumpkins but the size of a shooter marble. Those of old-fashioned eglantine are more football shaped. Modern hybrid tea roses produce great big hips like rugosas but round like a basketball.

Rosa rugosa cultivars produce the fleshiest hips of all Hips start out green as the seed develops inside. With the short days and cold nights of autumn they ripen to bright red, orange or purple. The color tells you when it's ripe. A ripe hip will feel soft to the touch because it's composed of sugar-rich flesh that surrounds the seeds. Rose seeds are packed inside the flesh with a mass of hair like-fibers at the center. Nature's strategy is to lure wild animals to eat rose hips, then carry them far from the mother plant in their stomach. Eventually they are deposited elsewhere. Thus the species is distributed.

The flesh of the rose hip is one of the most vitamin rich foods in the world. Ounce for ounce, rose hip pulp contains more Vitamin C than citrus. Added to that is a medicine chest of beta carotene, bioflavinoids, calcium, citrates, citric acid, iron malates, malic acid, niacin, phosphorus and vitamins A, B1, B2, E, K. It's no wonder they've been adding rose hips to Vitamin C for years, and that virtually every culture in the northern hemisphere has used the fruit for medicine. Rose hip tea is a super cold-fighting drink.

Green rose hips are filled with developing seeds To lay in a store of rose hips at the end of your garden season, stop pruning the roses in late summer. This allows the last flush of bloom to pollinate and fruit with enough time to mature before the cold weather. It may not make your autumn roses look that great, but you'll get a much better harvest.

You can preserve your rose hips by freezing or by cooking up a good batch of rose hip jam. Rose hips contain a naturally high level of fruit pectin so you don't need store-bought pectin to make the rose hip jam. Rose hips can also be mixed into other fruit jams to enhance flavor and vitamin content.

It's important to wait until after the first good frost to harvest your rose hips. To make rose hip jam, first gather four cups of ripe hips in a basket and remove residual stems and the calix cleanly. Wash them thoroughly to remove any dust or bugs. Then boil them in four cups water with three tablespoons lemon juice for a half hour or until very soft. This breaks down the rose hip so you can separate out the seeds and fibers from the flesh.

Rose hips still on the dormant rose twig.Use a coarse sieve to press the boiled rose hips through to remove the seeds. Then use a finer sieve to separate the fibers. The result is pure rose hip flesh.

Return the juice and pulp to the boiling pan and stir in two cups of sugar. Bring to a boil, then simmer until it reaches 220 degrees. Turn off heat and ladle into sterilized canning jars.

Soon you can begin spot bright red wild rose hips in abandoned fields and hedgerows. Beware of gathering along roads where herbicides may have been used. If you are a gardener, why not taste that fruit you've so rigorously pruned away and discover the healthy rewards of letting your roses go to seed.

Italian Tomato Garden:

An old Italian lived alone in
New Jersey. He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard.

His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

Dear Vincent,
I am feeling pretty sad, because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over..? I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days.
Love, Papa

A few days later he received a letter from his son.

Dear Pop,
Don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried.
Love,
Vinnie

At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left.

That same day the old man received another letter from his son.

Dear Pop,
Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love you, Vinnie

The unknown frontier. Modern day pioneers in search of the perfect homestead to live the modern day pioneers life.

We must apologize for not being able to post on the PL Report the last couple of weeks.

While in search of our new homestead we have been without internet service. We have since purchased our new homestead and are working on obtaining internet service. We are able to post now to the PL Report and check our e-mails by driving 5 miles to a local tavern where they have free wi-fi service.

After our first week on the property, we have come to realize that we are truly living the pioneer life. A little about our property. The gentleman who purchased the property sometime in the 1930’s, and his wife raised 11 children on their 80 acres of land.

The Mrs.  passed away around 1990, and the Mr.  passed away in 2003.

The property was then divided up into eight 10 acre tracts. We were fortunate enough that one of the daughters was selling her 10 acres that just happens to be the original homestead. There is a house and a small barn on the property. The house has not been attended to for the last 6 years, ceiling falling down, floors are falling through, windows broken, not to mention the rodents that have since made this home their new residence. It is in really bad shape. Once we get rid of the rodents and possible snakes we will gut the home and turn it into our small animal barn to house our chickens, rabbits and goats at night.

There is approximately 5 acres of prime farm land with rich sandy loam soil and 5 acres of forest. The primary cash crops that were grown on this property consisted of strawberries, cucumbers, peanuts and corn. The family garden plot consists of a ½ acre completely fenced to keep the critters out with trees planted on the perimeter of the garden plot.

There is an 80’ hand dug well, that has the cleanest, freshest water we have ever tasted. After two days of John working on re-installing the pump that was provided to us for the well, we attempted to prime and start it up just to find out it was shot. Thank goodness the hardware store in town had a pump, as we were in need of water. We both worked on installing the new pump the next day and jumped for joy when the pump started pumping out water that evening.

You never realize how important water is until you don’t have it for three or four days. Water is the most important element for human survival. We tested the water with a water test kit and every single test came back perfect. The water is crystal clear, cold, tastes and smells clean.

There is an old barn on the property that is in pretty good condition. You can tell that the owner built this himself, even down to sawing his own lumber as there is still some bark on some of the lumber as well as all the 2x4’s in the building are true 2 inches by 4 inches! It took 2 days just to clean out two sections of the barn. One section that was used as a pantry/storage will take a little longer as there are still jars and jars of canned blackberries, potatoes, beans and who knows what else. Now mind you none of this food is going to be any good, but it does show us that this family lived off this land for the last 70 years and we intend to do the same. There are dozens, and dozens of mason jars that we will be able to use once they are cleaned and sterilized. Carrie was thrilled to see that as we will only have to purchase new lids and rings.

We are going to see what we can salvage from the house before it is torn down. We are then going to turn the barn into our living quarters. One of the  boys who grew up on this property stopped by yesterday to pay us a visit. We learned that the original home had burned down and they had to live in the small barn for a while until they could afford to build another house. I can’t imagine trying to raise babies in the barn, but back then, you do what you have to do to survive. It is kind of ironic that we are going to take advantage of this same shelter as our living quarters on our homestead.

During our visit, we were told that there are two pecan trees, several black walnut trees and one hickory nut tree. There is also bing cherry trees, persimmon trees, and wild blackberries. We were shown where the deer trails were and informed us that there are wild turkey as well. We thought that this was a great start for our new homestead with already established nut and fruit trees as well as an abundance of wild game.

The grass in the fields and the family garden plot are about three feet high, so it will have to be cut and we will need to turn the soil in the garden plot as we have been told that it is time to get your garden in. The days have been warm and sunny. Cabbage and broccoli can be planted now. We were told that potatoes need to be in by March 17th, then everything else right after that. Yes, we have a lot to do. All this work to do, just as the pioneers before us, as we have no modern day farm/garden equipment so it will have to be done by hand.

More about the fascinating history of this old farmstead in our upcoming 1st issue of Pioneer Living On-line Magazine.

We will do our best to keep you posted on our progress a few times a week. Thank you all for being patient we will get your e-mails answered as soon as possible.

Thanks to all our readers,

survival gardening crops.-

Heirloom and Open Pollinated seeds are the way to go for growing food at
home. Many new companies are selling  large collections of seed in a
can. Unfortunately, the varieties are not always chosen by people with
knowledge or experience saving seeds. While it is true Open Pollinated
seeds can produce an identical harvest, the plants must not cross
pollinate with related varieties. These could be other crops in your
garden, or wild plants quite a distance from you. You have to know what
will cross pollinate in order to save seeds. You also need to know how
and when to collect  mature seeds from a plant you grew. Each kind is
different.

Choose crops which provide calories and protein. You want  to be able to
harvest  food over a long period of time. Plan to have food ready to
pick as much of the year as possible. You need crops which store easily
for Winter use.

Different kinds of  vegetable seeds keep for various numbers of years.
Storing all your seeds together in one big can doesn't make sense. Some
vegetable seeds are only viable the following year. Others last seven
years or more. Whether you collect your own seeds, or buy them, you need
to know how long different kinds of seed keep.

On our free website we cover many aspects of homesteading, with 37
Articles, 200 photographs, and hundreds of links for information  and

Howard Beale in the movie "Network," A movie made 30 years ago that perfectly describes the situation today about television, and mainstream media.

Are you “Mad As Hell”?

I don’t have to tell you things are bad everybody knows things are bad, it’s a depression.

Everybody’s out of work or scared of losing their job. The dollar buys a nickels worth, banks are going bust, shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street and there is nobody anywhere that seems to know what to do and there is no end to it.

We know the air is unfit to breath and our food unfit to eat. We sit watching out TV’s while some local newscaster tells us that today we had 15 homicides and 63 violent crimes as if that is the way things are supposed to be. We know things are bad, worse than bad, there crazy, it’s like everything everywhere is going crazy so we don’t go out anymore. We sit in the house and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller. And all we say is “please at least leave us alone in our living rooms, let me have my toaster, my TV and my steal belted radials and I won’t say anything just leave us alone.

Well I’m not going to leave you alone. I want you to get mad! I don’t want you to protest, I don’t want you to ride, I don’t want you to write to your congressmen because I wouldn’t know what to tell you to write. I don’t know what to do about the depression and inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is first you have got to get mad. You’ve got to say, “I’m a human being, god damn it! My life has value!

So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it and stick your head out and yell “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!”

I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it and stick your head out and yell “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!”

Things have got to change, but first you have to get mad you have got to say “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!”

Then we will figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil crisis. But first you have got to get mad and say “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going to take this anymore!”

Are You Mad as Hell?

American Pioneers were for the most part American Patriots. The early pioneers of American took a stand to not live under the same circumstances in which they came from.

It is important to all that you be informed and stand up for what you believe in. Do you want control of your life, or would you rather your government be in control of your life.

Unless you live in a cave, or do not have internet, television, or any other modern communication devices, you all are aware of what is happening in America and around the world. It seems that freedoms are being taken away, or about to be taken away from Americans and people worldwide.

In America, we are citizens, not subjects. “We The People” is supposed to mean just that. “The People” are in charge. As modern “Pioneers” we need to know our history and stand up for “We The People” and not be tread on by anyone including our government.

  A little history lesson:

The Gadsden Flag Written by, Chris Whitten www.gadsden.info

By 1775, the snake symbol wasn't just being printed in newspapers. It was appearing all over the colonies: on uniform buttons, on paper money, and of course, on banners and flags.

The snake symbol morphed quite a bit during its rapid, widespread adoption. It wasn't cut up into pieces anymore. And it was usually shown as an American timber rattlesnake, not a generic serpent.

We don't know for certain where, when, or by whom the familiar coiled rattlesnake was first used with the warning "Don't Tread on Me."

We do know when it first entered the history books.

In the fall of 1775, the British were occupying Boston and the young Continental Army was holed up in Cambridge, woefully short on arms and ammunition. At the Battle of Bunker Hill, Washington's troops had been so low on gunpowder that they were ordered "not to fire until you see the whites of their eyes."

In October, a merchant ship called The Black Prince returned to Philadelphia from a voyage to England. On board were private letters to the Second Continental Congress that informed them that the British government was sending two ships to America loaded with arms and gunpowder for the British troops.

Congress decided that General Washington needed those arms more than the British. A plan was hatched to capture the cargo ships. They authorized the creation of a Continental Navy, starting with four ships. The frigate that carried the information from England, the Black Prince, was one of the four. It was purchased, converted to a man-of-war, and renamed the Alfred.

To accompany the Navy on their first mission, Congress also authorized the mustering of five companies of Marines. The Alfred and its sailors and marines went on to achieve some of the most notable victories of the American Revolution. But that's not the story we're interested in here.

What's particularly interesting for us is that some of the Marines that enlisted that month in Philadelphia were carrying drums painted yellow, emblazoned with a fierce rattlesnake, coiled and ready to strike, with thirteen rattles, and sporting the motto "Don't Tread on Me."

 An American Guesser

In December 1775, "An American Guesser" anonymously wrote to the Pennsylvania Journal:

"I observed on one of the drums belonging to the marines now raising, there was painted a Rattle-Snake, with this modest motto under it, 'Don't tread on me.' As I know it is the custom to have some device on the arms of every country, I supposed this may have been intended for the arms of America."

This anonymous writer, having "nothing to do with public affairs" and "in order to divert an idle hour," speculated on why a snake might be chosen as a symbol for America.

First, it occurred to him that "the Rattle-Snake is found in no other quarter of the world besides America."

The rattlesnake also has sharp eyes, and "may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance." Furthermore,

"She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. ... she never wounds 'till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her."

Finally,

"I confess I was wholly at a loss what to make of the rattles, 'till I went back and counted them and found them just thirteen, exactly the number of the Colonies united in America; and I recollected too that this was the only part of the Snake which increased in numbers. ...

"'Tis curious and amazing to observe how distinct and independent of each other the rattles of this animal are, and yet how firmly they are united together, so as never to be separated but by breaking them to pieces. One of those rattles singly, is incapable of producing sound, but the ringing of thirteen together, is sufficient to alarm the boldest man living."

Many scholars now agree that this "American Guesser" was Benjamin Franklin.

Franklin, of course, is also known for opposing the use of an eagle -- "a bird of bad moral character" -- as a national symbol.

Christopher Gadsden & Esek Hopkins

Although Benjamin Franklin helped create the American rattlesnake symbol, his name isn't generally attached to the rattlesnake flag. The yellow "don't tread on me" standard is usually called a Gadsden flag, for Colonel Christopher Gadsden, or less commonly, a Hopkins flag, for Commodore Esek Hopkins.

These two individuals were mulling about Philadelphia at the same time, making important contributions to American history and the history of the rattlesnake flag.

Christopher Gadsden was an American patriot if ever there was one. He led Sons of Liberty in South Carolina starting in 1765, and was later made a colonel in the Continental Army. In 1775 he was in Philadelphia representing his home state in the Continental Congress. He was also one of three members of the Marine Committee who decided to outfit and man the Alfred and its sister ships.

Gadsden and Congress chose a Rhode Island man, Esek Hopkins, as the commander-in-chief of the Navy. The flag that Hopkins used as his personal standard on the Alfred is the one we would now recognize. It's likely that John Paul Jones, as the first lieutenant on the Alfred, ran it up the gaff.

It's generally accepted that Hopkins' flag was presented to him by Christopher Gadsden, who felt it was especially important for the commodore to have a distinctive personal standard. Gadsden also presented a copy of this flag to his state legislature in Charleston. This is recorded in the South Carolina congressional journals:

"Col. Gadsden presented to the Congress an elegant standard, such as is to be used by the commander in chief of the American navy; being a yellow field, with a lively representation of a rattle-snake in the middle, in the attitude of going to strike, and these words underneath, "Don't Tread on Me!"

American Pioneer Patriots fly the flag and stand up for "We The People", "Don't Tread On Me"Found at Pioneer Living Mercantile.

Just a quick comment about what we are trying to accomplish on this site. We will do our best to stay focused on getting information and resources to people of all walks of life the lost/forgotten art of basic human survival. How did the pioneers do it? If we were thrown back in time, could we do what they did? We still believe with what is going on all over the world especially today, that the lessons learned from what it actually takes to survive are very important to all human beings.

That being said, we will do our best to stay away from particular political or religious opinions or beliefs, as we believe that every human has the right to have their own opinion. Although, it is important that everyone has the right to voice their opinion, and you are free to do so in our forum as this is how we learn from each other. Agree to disagree is very important for us all to acknowledge.

With what is going on today, we do feel it is important to let you all see that no matter how big of a city you live in, or how small of a town you live in, this has been our experience in our traveling this winter with most the people we have talked to from many different areas of the United States.

The following is a letter to the editor of a small town newspaper in Arizona.

Editor:

Save our rights, liberty and freedoms.

Double-talk, discrimination, liberals, a very big number of unaccountable politicians, bankers, money lenders…the list goes on - all on the greedy gravy train! So many that should be hung instead of being free and out on the street all wanting the middle class to give them billions more. It all boils down to greedy, unaccountable CEO’s, managers and over-paid politicians.

Between all the pork and foreign aid socialism being jammed down the working family’s throat faster and faster. It shows the stupidity of those in office, when they can’t understand why the American people have lost faith in our so-called leaders!

More and more people losing their homes and jobs, families losing everything, and leaders too stupid to “close the gates” on our borders! Causing wars they won’t let our troops win, complain because we use water-boarding to get needed information, yet never say a thing when the enemy decapitates and drags our service people through the streets.

I still would vote to bring our troops home and replace them with politicians, liberals, lawyers, CEO’s, lobbyists, bankers and a few so-called preachers, etc. To sweethearts, grandparents, veterans, those now in service - ever wonder how we’re told our troops are sent overseas to free the people in foreign lands from the evil forces there, to protect their rights, businesses, homes, families, and country from harm. All this given and promised to others, our troops and people upon coming home are told the Second Amendment is no longer our liberty or right to keep or have a gun to protect our own home and family from harm. If you can answer my question, I’d like to know.

I have written presidents, politicians of all kinds, including the American Legion, VFW, American Vets, NRA, etc., all the same question, and never any answer back from anyone.

To think so many have fought and died to protect America and our rights and no one seems to care - at least no one in government seems to have the guts to stand up, be counted, and fight the traitors among us. Greed, unaccountable, and stupid people are destroying America because we are doing nothing to stop them!

A very big step to put America again as the greatest would be to get rid of the IRS and go to a fair tax where every worker gets to keep his whole paycheck. And No. I would be to return the control of all money making back to control of Congress and the American people and out of the control of private banks and foreign control. Where they charge everyone the full face value of the note instead of anything near the few cents they are charged to have it printed!

I hate to say it, but greed and crooked lenders and unaccountability are destroying America and the world in general!

Please, please America, wake up and fight the evil among us, for you, your family, and mine.

Bill Dillon

If you did not know, In late 2006, Congress revised the Posse Comitatus Act and the Insurrection Act to make it far easier for a president to declare martial law. Those changes were repealed at the end of this January as part of Public Law 110-181 (HR 4986), the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2008 (signed into law by President Bush on January 28, 2008). Unfortunately it is not the great victory in which one might think because of the total militarization of all local and State police forces all across America.

Will there be martial law? Is martial law coming soon to America? When you see law enforcement being armed with automatic weapons, bullet proof vests and riot gear in small towns that have not had a murder or crime in years, then you have to ask yourself why.

The United States has more people locked up in prisons today than Russia and China combined. It comes out to one in every hundred Americans is behind bars. Our once great country that our ancestors fought and died for has become exactly the tyrants they were fighting. Fascists! When has America ever used words like Homeland? Never!

If you spend a few weeks reading all the info, watching the videos and following the links at Dprogram.net, you will then have a better understanding of what has led to ‘The Decline And Fall Of America’. Remember that Knowledge is power! Learn, look, listen, read, share, prepare, train, stock up on food and water supply for one year.

Fill your pantry with non perishable foods, medicines, cooking oils, tinned meats and veggies. Flour, oats dried corn peas, beans and lentils.. Teach your self how to preserve food for storage. Check out your local potable/ drinking water supplies, non perfumed chlorine bleach is a good sterilizer for water, about 2 teaspoons full per 2 gallon bucket, stirred well and allowed to stand for at least 24 hours with a lid on it or until it no longer smells of bleach. Boiling water helps but it is not always enough to kill off the bacteria which can resist high temperatures.

Americans have been warned for years of the things to come, but have blindly looked away from the truth, which has been available for all to see. There are no more excuses not to prepare for the possible future. The time to act is now before it is too late. Check Dprogram.net for daily updates and news you won’t see in the mainstream media.

A little history of water cure

The Greek, Hippocrates, who lived about five hundred years before Christ, was the first man who wrote much on the healing of disease with water. At a very early period the Egyptians practiced bathing considerable. The ancient Persians and Greeks erected stately and magnificent public buildings. In Constantinople the Turkish baths were used extensively in the 15th century. In the year 1600 public vapor baths were numerous in Paris. From the very earliest part of the 18th century water was used for cures. Floyer published a history of bathing where remarkable cures were made by means of bathing, and he recommended them for numerous diseases. A Mr. Hancock, who was a minister, published in 1723 a book called Common Water the Best Cure for Fevers. Another book, published by someone else, was called Curiosities of Common Water and was published in 1723, in which it was said to be an “excellent remedy which will perform cures with very little trouble, and without charge,” may be truly styled a universal remedy. In 1840 to 1850 Victor Priesnitz, of Germany, led in the use of water as a curative.

The water cure spread to America about 1850 and until about 1854 prospered greatly, but the doctors would not stand for this, as they did not want the people to get hold of any remedy which was practical and non-expensive, that could be used in any home. About 1870 they had successfully prevented the water-cure practitioners from practicing in New York by medical law.

Even our North American Indians use baths for many diseases. They have original ways of giving both water and vapor baths, the vapor bathing being the most commonly used, followed by plunging into a stream.

You can read more on Back to Eden by going to our Mercantile page and buying Jethro Kloss book.

Quote: Man’s intelligence has made it possible for him to become grossly perverted in almost everything-food, appetite, bathing, etc. Man does not go astray from nature because he lacks intelligence or instinct, but because he wishes to gratify his own desires.

In most survival situations, three priorities must be addressed before any other needs are met:

A: Finding or making shelter is the most important because it allows a person to stay protected from the elements.

B: Humans can live for about three days without water. The length of survival mostly depends upon climate conditions and physical exertion.

C: Food is essential for survival. In the winter especially so you have calories to burn, to maintain essential body heat.

These priorities may change depending upon environmental factors.

A shelter will protect one from potentially disastrous weather, help prevent hypothermia, and allow restful sleep. If possible it will need to be set up quickly. You don't want to spend all of you time working on a shelter and take away vital time from other survival steps.

A shelter should provide a somewhat comfortable place to sleep. To this end, it should account for the following:

Immovable rocks, animal nests, and other obstacles and hazards should be avoided.

Dry watercourses may be flat, sandy, and comfortable to sleep on, but they will flood in a storm.

Sunlight will provide warmth (which is not always welcome), and help one to wake up in the morning. However, sunny, open areas are vulnerable to wind.

Heat transfer: an excessively large or well-ventilated shelter will not retain warmth well.

Flashing (weatherproofing) to provide protection from elements.

A cave would be a very useful shelter because it is very resistant to rain water getting in and maintains a constant temperature. Unfortunately, caves can present additional problems such as ground water, dampness and wildlife. Bears also nest in caves, so before selecting a cave to stay in, you should check it for signs of inhabitance.

The simplest and most mobile shelter would be some type of tarp that can be moved easily and supported by make shift frame work or just rope. When this is not available or not suitable to the situation a simple shelter can be constructed using a lattice of branches propped up at an angle against the wind. Large leaves, such as ferns or fir branches, can then be added to create cover for rain and hail. Ferns can also be added on a shelter to provide insect repellent. Branches propped against a fallen tree make a simple and effective shelter, but animals such as ants and snakes may nest under the tree. With some practice, more advanced shelters such as a debris shelter can be constructed without modern tools or implements.

Lot's of people ask what is a prepper? We the post below was on a website that explains it very well.

Greetings, folks. Jim Shy Wolf here from the Minnesota

Preppers Network. You seem to be curious about us, so I'll

attempt to answer a few questions. Let me begin with this by

Estimated Prophet.

First- one has to define what a 'wackjob' is, since we may be

using different terminology: in my neck of the woods we spell

something similar as 'whackjob', which means 'put together in

a hurry' or 'put together by chance'. Well, we are neither.

Let me 'explain, Lucy.

The American Prepper Network was created to join all the

'preppers' out here in BlogLand, in effort to aid us all in

having a single location to gather information on 'prepping'.

I can hear your heads rattling, "What's a

'prepper'?" Simple answer is, "A 'prepper' is

someone who prepares."

Do any of you have auto insurance? That is prepping. Do you

have home insurance? That is prepping. How about medical

insurance? That is prepping. Do you have a savings account,

stocks, bonds, etc? That is prepping. Do you have a few days

food supply in your cupboard? That is prepping. So, whether

you realize it or not, you all, hopefully, are 'preppers'.

The American Prepper Network is taking these topics to a

different level.

We all are aware of what happened during hurricane Katrina.

(I hope, anyway.) Also just last fall with hurricane Ike.

Some of you may even have been involved in very personal ways

with either of those. I live in Minnesota and we get some

extreme cold and lots of snow. Just as many did in New

Orleans, I prepare for inclement weather. I have some extra

rations of food and water, durable and weather appropriate

clothing. That is called 'prepping'.

There are different levels of 'prepping'.

At the simplest form, it is having a few days or a week of

food and water in your home. No need to starve or be thirsty

if you are stuck during a storm. To not be prepared for

unfortunate circumstances is foolishness- we have families to

care for. To not do so is to not love or respect or care for

them.

Going one step beyond the week end of being

snowed/rained/tornadoed/flooded in, is the second stage of

prepping. We have more than a few days or a week of food,

water and clothing. To that, in my instance, I have added a

wood burning stove and necessary wood. I also own a chainsaw

and axe, wood splitter and storage area. I have the chainsaw

to clear roadways, as well, or whatever else a chainsaw is

good for. I am also an REMT- Registered Emergency Medical

Technician. I have a 'jump kit' filled with medical/emergency

supplies. Enough preps to deliver a baby if need be- and

sometimes here in the wilds that does happen. Babies don't

always come when you want them to. So I, and many other

'preppers', are trained medical personnel. It's just

'prepping'. Actually, it's not 'just prepping', it's 'smart'.

Any fool can let someone die or starve or go thirsty- the

smart person will aide them.

A step beyond the above prepping, is a more in-depth style.

These people, of which I am one, prepare for a more serious

'survival' situation, whatever that may be. To go without

electric power for a month, as New Orleans did- and longer-

when you can do something about it yourself is stupid. So I

have a generator. Many up here do- it's only smart. Of

course, if we KNEW when the disaster was going to hit, it'd

be easy to be ready for it. But that is not the nature of

'emergencies'. So we prepare. We also have four wheel drive

vehicles. Ever try driving your eco-friendly Hyundi through

two feet of snow in a blizzard to get to a house fire? Ain't

gonna happen. But it does happen with 4WD trucks and SUVs. So

we prepare. We do not take life lightly. Ours or anyone

else's. We prepare.

Some people think of 'preppers' or 'survivalists' as people

who are hiding in the woods waiting for the other shoe to

drop, for calamitous circumstances. That is not a 'prepper'

or 'survivalist'. That is a 'doomer'. There's a big

difference. We are not shouting doom and gloom, waiting for

the world to come crashing down on our shoulders. Quite the

opposite.

We are preparing to live. To keep our loved ones safe and

secure in difficult times.

Some preppers form from family units or groups of friends or

church groups or just neighborhoods. We have groups who

perform 'neighborhood watch' groups: only makes sense when

the police are miles away. Just as we have volunteer firemen

when the 'big city' fire departments are miles away.

Preppers come in all flavors- red, white, brown, black, green

and blue. Preppers come from all walks of life. Retirees,

teachers, students, police, firemen, lawyers, ministers,

laymen of any sort. Some are religious, some are not. Some

preppers are shoe-string preppers saving on a very tight

budget. Some are wealthy and can have the 'best' of their

prepping desires. As you can see, we 'preppers' are from a

variety of backgrounds. We don't care, we just prep to save

lives.

About the only commonality in all 'preppers' is a love of the

country in which we live, love the Constitution upon which it

is based, and the only color we are under is red, white and

blue. To sum up what a 'prepper' is, is a difficult thing.

Perhaps the best way to do it is to say, "We prepare for

living."

Dear Pioneer Living,

Growing up in the depression years as a kid in the Midwest, we would often hang out near the train tracks to watch the trains go by and wave at the engineer and crew men on the train. Not having enough wood or coal to burn in our stove to keep us warm in the winter, the train crew somehow knew this and would routinely shovel coal to the ground for us to gather for our stoves.

During those years, because of the whole families efforts, grown ups and children alike, we had to grow our own food and preserve our own food.

Over the many years of my life, I have lived in the country, suburbs, and now a city has grown up around where I live now, so I guess you could say I live in the city. I have always had fresh food to eat, food that grows voluntarily. I bury kitchen waste in the garden to help fertilize, and every year I am rewarded with volunteer potatoes that grow from the peels I bury. Volunteer tomatoes and squash have kept me supplied for years.

Fresh sweet blueberries, raspberries grow right next to my house. You see with very little effort anyone can have real food if we just recognize and appreciate it.

I have never forgotten what I was taught as a youngster. How to provide for yourself. Most people today would find it strange that an elderly gentleman still preserves his own food. Most people would call this women’s work. Growing your own food, or buying in large quantities from local farmers for preserving, hunting for meat for the year was just a way of life, even if the grocery store was more convenient and I could afford to purchase the food. Somehow what was instilled in me when I was a youngster was with me my whole life.

In raising my own children, three girls and one boy, my son was the only one who caught on to the concept of taking care of ones own self. He is in his 40’s now, and throughout his adult life carries on what was taught to him.

Thanks for a great website. I think that in the very near future people will need to learn the skills and knowledge it takes to take care of ones own self. Can’t wait for you to start your magazine. I will be signing up for a subscription.

We live in a world and time of uncertainty. Governments in other countries are falling apart. People in the United States and around the world are loosing their jobs, getting their hours cut back due to the economic situation that is truly global.
It becomes more and more difficult to stay positive in a world that seems to be falling apart. No matter what you believe, do not loose faith. Weather it be faith in your God, or faith in yourselves as human beings.
We as human beings have the power to change. Change within ourselves, change within our communities, and change in the world for the better of mankind.
It all starts with change within the home. The home that you have provided for your family. The home that resides in a world that you would like to see your children, and grandchildren to grow up in. The change starts within you.
We as human beings have the ability to have what we desire. I am not talking about the material things that most of us think we desire, but the true desire for ourselves and our families to be happy, healthy and safe.
While talking with my mother tonight regarding the issues of what is happening in the world today, and expressing our mission to be able to help as many human beings as possible of the lost/forgotten art of basic human survival, the lessons that have been passed down in our families of knowing what it takes to survive, she was very concerned about the people who have no land to grow their own food, the city dwellers and suburbanites.
Understanding this need is the first step. This is part of what we hope to accomplish. Not only helping out fellow homesteader’s, survivalist’s, “the new pioneers”, and the new patriots striving for the freedom of being able to secure a happy, healthy, safe environment for their families and all human beings. We feel that there are solutions out there for everyone. Solutions for the city dwellers, the suburbanites, the country folk, homesteader’s, survivalist’s, and patriots, just as our forefathers intended for us in America and fought for as the American Son’s of Liberty, (ASL).
There are solutions for each and every one of you. You have to look deep enough. Open your mind to the possibilities. Each and every one of us has the ability to survive whatever is handed to us in life.

In this era of obesity and epidemics, it seems a little strange to talk about potential food scarcity. But here's the hard truth: the abundance we enjoy is utterly dependent on a complex infrastructure of producers and distributors that has multiple stress points. If the trucks stop or can't get through, the shelves of most food stores will empty in less than a week. Government sources estimate that most homes have enough food on hand to get by for three to four days, but this is just sketchy enough that the same folks recommend that you have a three-day emergency supply. Our government was required to stock up on enough food for every person in the United States for three years. Well, gee they don’t have it anymore. So stock it up yourself! And at least 1 years worth…..

It is up to YOU! Not our government to help YOU!

Lord knows, many of us could lose a few pounds, so lower intakes for the short term wouldn't be so bad. Just be sure to keep essentials like vitamins and minerals in your diet. Actually, having to set aside food for a emergency is a great way to get an idea about just how much food -- by weight and volume -- most of us consume.

You are responsible for yourself and your family. I do not think any government in the world can take care of every person in their country. So, I will say again, do not depend on your government for what you are responsible for. Take care of yourself, rely on your- self and in the end only blame your-self if you did not prepare.

Quote of the Day:

Remember, most of our ancestors had to spend a large portion of their waking hours securing and preparing food; now may not be a bad time to look back with a little humility and awe.

Pioneer Living is becoming concerned about deficiencies produced by poor soil. Continuous chemical fertilization prevents plants from receiving all the natural elements they need. When plant life becomes imbalanced, this imbalance is passed on to the people and animals who eat these plants, thus contributing to their malnutrition. Poor nutrition will eventually lead to overweight and other health problems.

In Genesis, God says: " Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is apon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat."

He was very conscious that the total food values were there. Indeed, the seed is life itself. It contains the vital nourishment our bodies need. A seed is the crucible wherein the alchemy of life works its magic. This tiny space contains the condensed germinating energy, the life-giving element, the tremendous forces that even scientist do not fully understand. These forces lie dormant in the seed until combined with water, air and sunshine. Then the embryo seed's potential bursts from its shell and life begins!

Dear PL
After I watched the video on guns I saw that the website it came to said Pioneering and was curious. I am always looking for other ways to do all.
Ok, so the first one, do you remember when my son Tanner went thru the acid reflux and all those visits to Childrens just to have them put him on Prilosec and then Prevacid. Neither which worked real well and did not want my child on this adult medicine. I had read three different times in one week about Apple cider vinegar. I believe this was thrown at me to heal my son Tanner. He was on this recipe for about two years. It has been about a year and a half now since he has not been on it. He will take it when needed. Maybe twice a year. I did notice sugar in the evening was a huge problem.
1 cup of water
2 tsps of Bragg Apple cider vinegar w/ the "mother"
2 tsps of good honey
I would make this up the night before so it was all disolved by morning
I also gave this to my son Spencer and this helped him with the constipation. I use this very often in the afternoon for a pick me up.

This was an interview with survivalist/instructor George Smith (AKA Texas Gorge)

PL: WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU HAVE NO REFRIDGERATION, SALT OR SMOKE?

George: If you have bad meat and no food and are starving?

PL: Yes

George: At first I would boil the meat for 20 minutes. As the days went by I would make sure to boil the meat for at least an hour.

To boil meat, have a kettle large enough to permit the meat to be entirely covered by the water, and let the water come to a boil before the meat is placed in it. Then let it remain boiling in the kettle for 45 to 60 minutes, which will be long enough to kill the smell, and bacteria. Now rinse meat well.

The meat will taste much better if one takes plenty of time for boiling. Then let it cook on a fire, allowing twelve to fifteen minutes for each pound.

I have done this several times in extreme situations, I ate the meat and not once did I get sick using this method.

PL: What about maggots?

George: Maggots! They are also edible, but not for me, I just picked them off before boiling the meat.

What would you do if you were starving?

Dear PL,

My name is George Smith ( known as Texas George to my friends) and I thought this might be a good post for a way to find honey in the wild. I have been living in the deserts of Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas all my life and have been an Instructor in desert survival for many years as well. I was shown a good technique for getting honey in the wild and this is how it works:

Take a glass jar and collect about 15 honey bee’s and put holes in the top for the bee‘s to breathe, cover the jar with a cloth and let the bee’s settle down. Once this has been done take the cloth off and all of the bee’s should be collected on one side of the jar. Now just travel in the direction that the bee’s have gathered in the jar. This will take you to their hive where you can collect the honey from the wild hive.

Remember to go at night and hopefully when it is cold out so you don’t get stung. In the desert when it is at night and cold I have found many bee hives and have collected honey. This will work anywhere and in the woods I have found hives that I have gathered and transplanted into new hives so that I don’t have to look for them anymore.

Thanks,

Texas George

Today was a historic event. The 44th president of the United States was sworn into office today. That’s about all I have today on that subject.

What is happening in the world today has not changed. It is our beliefs that humans all over the world still need to educated themselves. Educate yourselves on what is happening around the world.

Educate yourselves to be able to provide for your family whatever the future may be.

We live in a society of people who depend on other people to take care of them. We rely on our jobs to pay us to be able to feed our families. We rely on the grocery stores to provide us food for us to buy for our families to eat.

Almost every day, well it seems like it, we hear reports of contaminated food being sold to us. Our family has had these items in our cupboards, freezers, pantry’s in the past. We had to throw these items out for fear of our children getting sick or possibly dying from these contaminated foods.

We do believe again that everyone should educate themselves and find out what does GM seeds mean? What does GM foods mean?

Why are we genetically modifying our foods. Foods that the good earth provides us that is nutritional and healthy. Why are we modifying these foods. What is wrong with the foods that our ancestors ate?

I ask myself these questions almost every day. Why have we become a society of being taken care of by others. What happened to taking care of ourselves. What happened to the lost art of basic human survival.

I also ask myself, “What has happened to the human spirit of standing up for what is right?”

I was taught by my parents, grandparents that you are always free to voice your opinion no mater what it was. You are always free to stand up for what is morally right.

We are looking in the face of a changed America. A changed World.

We come across so many people who are afraid today. We are not sure why they are afraid. We assume it is because they do not know how they will survive should they loose their job, or should the grocery store shelves go empty. They do not even know where the food comes from that they eat.

It is really sad. We are only here to help those who have been wronged by not having the information passed on by their ancestors what it takes for basic human survival.

Sorry I was in a ranting and raving mood tonight. Thank you all for your support in our efforts to give people the resources to be able to take care of themselves and their families no matter what happens in the days to come.

Some times we must all stand up for what is right, even if that means we stand alone.

What PL hopes to accomplish…

There are many generous and aware individuals in America and the world that truly see the hunger crisis going on right now. We believe the best way to make sure no human goes hungry is through education. “Give a person a tomato, a potato, an apple it feeds this person for a day, teach a person to grow tomatoes, potatoes, and apples you feed them for life.”

Educating and teaching human beings the forgotten/lost art of basic human survival. Teaching humans from all walks of life how to grow and preserve their own nutritious food. Teaching about water survival, making sure the water you are drinking is safe clean water, the most important element to humans, water!

It is our goal at “Pioneer Living/Back To Basics Magazine” to be able to educate as many human beings as possible the forgotten/lost art of basic human survival. How did our grandparents, great grandparents, and ancestors survive without all the modern conveniences available to us today?

Often when people think about a survivalist, they envision someone who is trained in the outdoors and can survive off the land but a survivalist also stock piles food and possibly weapons to prepare for a disaster and the future unknown. Our ancestors were in reality survivalists.

This was because they were self sufficient, were responsible for one’s own self and family, protection, health, and sustenance as well as shelter.

This is what our ancestors knew and lived every day. They were prepared for what life brings through planning, learning, and preparing for any possible future.

The articles you will find in all our website will be focused on simpler times what our ancestors knew and lived every day. From disaster preparedness, extreme wilderness survival, growing and preserving your own nutritious food, foraging for food in the wilderness, water survival, and basic every day living.

We think that you will be surprised how simple it is, no matter what walk of life you come from, how to get back to basics and in control of your life.

Through education we can teach people how to survive more than one day at a time. We can teach them how to feed themselves and their families for life, be prepared for the future unknown and the basic art of human survival to be pasted on for generations to come.
